Amritsar airport sets passenger record in FY2024â€“25

FlyAmritsar has called for immediate state intervention to boost infrastructure and capitalize on the airportâ€™s rising potential.

Amritsar’s Sri Guru Ram Dass Jee International Airport witnessed record-breaking passenger traffic in fiscal year 2024–25, marking its most successful year to date.

According to data from the Airport Authority of India, analyzed by the FlyAmritsar Initiative, the airport handled a total of 3,542,880 passengers (domestic and international combined), reflecting a 14.8 percent increase from 3,085,598 in FY2023–24.

International passengers grew by 17.5 percent, rising from 981,405 to 1,153,461, while domestic traffic climbed 13.6 percent, increasing from 2,104,193 to 2,389,419.
March 2025 alone marked the highest-ever monthly passenger count in the airport’s history, with 343,384 travelers — up 8.5 percent from 316,495 in March 2024. This includes 111,628 international and 231,756 domestic passengers. International traffic rose by 12.8 percent, and domestic traffic by 6.6 percent year-on-year for March.

Commenting on the significance of the milestone, FlyAmritsar’s global convener Sameep Singh said, “This is a proud moment for Amritsar Airport and the region. The consistent growth in passenger footfall highlights Amritsar’s emerging role as a major air hub in Northern India—not only for domestic traffic but for international connectivity as well.”

Citing a high volume of transit traffic from Delhi bound for Amritsar, Gumtala stressed the importance of expanding direct international connectivity. Amritsar is currently connected to 10 international destinations, including Dubai, Doha, London Gatwick, Birmingham, Milan, and Singapore. Despite the surge, Gumtala criticized the Punjab government for failing to provide public transport links to the airport.

He called on the state to invest in infrastructure that supports Amritsar’s growing aviation role, suggesting that improved access would benefit travelers and support regional development.
