Heavy rains wreak havoc in North India

The hilly regions of Uttrakhand, Uttar Pradesh and Himachal Pradesh are the worst hit by the rains

Heavy rains lashed several parts of North India, including Delhi, Himachal Pradesh, Punjab and Haryana resulting in several deaths in the region. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted heavy to very heavy rainfall in the Sub-Himalayan region, West Bengal, Sikkim, Assam, Meghalaya, Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland, Manipur and Bihar to continue over the next 3-4 days.

The incessant rains and rising death count have prompted Prime Minister Narendra Modi to take note of the situation. According to a tweet by his office, “PM Narendra Modi spoke to senior ministers and officials and took stock of the situation in the wake of excessive rainfall in parts of India. Local administrations, NDRF and SDRF teams are working to ensure the well-being of those affected.”
